Finding my voice

I was just about ready to post my first installment in the “Love Jam” series a couple of days ago, and then I realized that it sucked. It sounded like generic commentary pap and platitudes. It appears I need a little time to find my “authentic voice” and really get this series going in the right direction. So if you’re wondering what’s taking so long, you can rest assured I’m still plugging away at it!

Back from my many travels

I’m back in the office today, back in the saddle so to speak. Spent the last week and a half traveling to various Christian conferences and events, and lots been going on. I’ll write more about it later. Certainly came back to interesting news — President-Elect Obama! Though he stands against pretty much everything I believe in, I nonetheless have to respect his amazing campaign and the fact that America will now have an African-American president. That’s a pretty huge feat.

Flew

The past few days have just flown by. It’s been, uh, intense. I wish I could share more at the moment, but basically things have started changing all around me in a variety of surprising ways. But, in the midst of it all, God has been firmly in control, and I feel His peace surrounding me. It’s very cool. That’s all for now. More later….

Cool….I just installed the WordPress app on my iPhone. Now I can blog from anywhere! Bwha ha ha!

On another note, while bopping around in S.F. this Saturday, I got an extensive tour of an actual Liberty Ship, the S.S. Jerimiah O’Brien, part of the Merchant Marine fleet that landed at Normandy Beach on D-day in WWII. Check out these phone pics!

Worst commute evah

Sorry I haven’t posted much recently…this week’s been super busy as I’m part of a major systems rollout at the company I work at…and to top it all off, I just got off the worst commute evah. I mean it. The worst I’ve ever had. Three and a half hours to get from Santa Rosa to San Francisco, normally a one hour drive in non-rush-hour traffic. It was actually four hours since I stopped to get a bite to eat. Unbelievable. And I almost killed myself driving the wrong way on a one way street. Yes…and I get paid for my mental prowess. Unbelievable.

Pity me.

Apostolic church

I’ve been reading a lot lately about apostolic church planting and growth…a movement that looks much more like the organic chaos of the New Testament era or the underground Chinese Christian explosion than the carefully planned and meticulously executed church scene of today’s America. I’ll share more of my findings with you in the days ahead.

Great artists steal, according to Picasso, so I’ll borrow a page from Mark Batterson and say how much I like the idea of becoming the solution to the problem. It’s so easy to sit around and gripe about what’s wrong in churches and then leave when it bugs you…the hard choice is getting off your duff and actually doing something about the issues. I tell you, I’d rather get kicked out of a church for being too active then just wander off mumbling under my breath about how stupid the whole thing is. Criticize by creating: get an idea together, find people who like it, and make it happen. Let other people be the critics — they can sit around and tell you it can’t be done while you’re in the midst of doing it. Note that I’m not saying it’s a good idea to cross authority or do things under the nose of leadership. I’m just saying that taking a proactive rather than reactive stance is so important and actually what many church leaders are wishing they could get!

Taking a few days off

I’ve been taking some time off the last few days, and though I return to work later this week, I’ll probably resume my normal blogging next week — although part-way through I’ll be heading up to Redding, CA for the JesusCulture conference once again. I’m sure that’ll probably grab the bulk of my attention, but I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.
