I’ve been on an interesting journey over the past few months as I’ve started playing regularly on the worship team for my church. In the past, I was always someone who played music and was a Christian, but only recently have I begun to play music because I’m a Christian. In other words, I’m learning how to perform for an audience of one, and I’m so happy that He enjoys listening to me. It’s not just on Sunday morning…I’m exploring playing just by myself for God to hear. It’s so different than creating art out of self-gratification or practicing for that “big gala performance” that’s always just beyond reach.

Tonight was particularly nice because while I was playing in the Spirit, a tune came to me that I knew was a piece I had intended to compose as the title track of an album project I’m going to record next year. I had expected to start messing around with some ideas in January; I didn’t realize today would be the initial session! Thank you Jesus!
