Eight Things About Me

I just found out that I was tagged by Ben Gray to share eight things about me that you probably don’t know about me. Somehow, I didn’t actually get notified of said tag. Good thing I was reading his blog. :)

So, here are eight things about me, in no particular order whatsoever:

  1. I was featured and interviewed on TV a number of years back when I was performing with our family Celtic band Distant Oaks. It was for an arts and culture show on a local (i. e. San Francisco) network station (KPIX or something like that). That’s probably my only claim to fame, so I’ll definitely string it out as long as I possibly can!
  2. I love eating salads — I’ve always enjoyed eating vegetables, fruits, etc. But I hate beets. I mean, I really hate beets. I don’t care what you do with them…they always taste like musty dirt to me. How anyone could possibly enjoy eating them is beyond me. Blech.
  3. I think sportcoats and blazers are totally cool. I have three in my closet currently that I got good deals on, and I hope to acquire a lot more. I like strange ones with weird colors and materials that totally don’t look like business as usual. I usually opt not to wear ties, but sometimes if I get really into it I’ll have some fun with that as well.
  4. I hate writing lists…such as this one. I also like to tease. :)
  5. Back in the dot-com days, I once wrote technical articles and reviews for a prominent computer publication and network that ended up selling for millions of dollars and making all the founders rich. I, however, left before that blessed event occurred due to some stupid mistakes on both sides. So I never saw a penny. But it did teach me a sound lesson on how to cultivate healthy relationships — which is worth it’s weight in gold.
  6. I’ve been using computers since I was two. My dad got me started on a Commodore 128 (there might have been a brief period with the 64, but I don’t remember it), and besides playing oodles of funky little games, I started learning how to program in BASIC and do some cool things like make “spites” fly around the screen. One thing led to another, and here I am twenty+ years later making a living in the programming and Web design world. My kids will probably be born geeks.
  7. Due to some trauma in my birth process, I came out covered in, uh, number two. My dad was the lucky sod who had to clean me up, bless his heart. I think God wanted to make sure I would stay humble since I would always remember what my grand entrance onto Planet Earth looked like.
  8. My mom took me to ballet lessons when I was very young. It wasn’t long before she realized this probably wasn’t something I had significant aptitude for. Just look up the Dilbert strip about “engineers in the gym” and you’ll probably get a good picture of my athletic abilities. Although I am determined to get good at golf some day. Wish me luck!

So there you have it. I will now tag the following people: Chris Davis, Grace (pen name), and Trevin Wax.

Yeah, sorry for not emailing you. I didn’t email anyone I tagged. Perhaps I should have! :)
