The Church is already out there

I believe God is wanting to tell us in the Church that His Church is already out there. He’s already preparing hearts and minds. He’s already calling individuals and communities to come to Him. Dreams, visions, revelations — the atmosphere is pregnant with heavenly possibilities. We simply need to see where God is moving and what He is doing and partner with Him in that work.

For too long we’ve been judgmental and arrogant, preferring to stay in our safe little bunkers and occasionally venture out into “the world” to try to arrest a few sinners and convert them to our Christian way of life. The time for that sort of behavior is long past. God is calling us to become missionaries within our own culture; we need to stop talking and start walking, so that our lives can be true witnesses of the life found in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Lord told me recently as I was praying for our future outreach efforts to the local New Age community that there is already a body in that community — it just has the wrong head. When the people of that community find the true head and place Jesus, not satan, at the center of their lives, then that body will become the Body — the blessed Bride of Christ. We will be so blessed by the New Age community as they put their creativity, their spirituality, and their faith in the hands of the Creator.

A sobering verse came to mind as I was pondering these things: Luke 3:8. John the Baptist is talking to the Jews in the region of the river Jordan, and what he says is not pretty. I quote from the ESV below:

Bear fruits in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham.

I tell you from the bottom of my heart: Jesus is looking for a Bride, and I believe He’s going to find it in the New Age community. Are we in “Churchland” going to go after God’s heart? I truly hope so. I pray, friends, that you too see that the harvest is plentiful — though the workers are few. Send workers, O God!

I’ll definitely be praying for you and your efforts with the New Age residents of your community. So many times we (the church) try to draw lines and boxes around people to write them off altogether. Sadly, people who attach themselves to the New Age movement fall into this category (along with Homosexuals, witches and whatever else the “pet” sin happens to be).
