I’m a total geekhead and have the athletic abilities of a slug, but I have a circle of friends that I got involved with a couple of years ago that gets together every once in a while for some fun and games. Today we spent several hours in the glorious afternoon sunshine playing softball. Skill levels ranged from pretty swell to you-gotta-be-kidding me, but nobody cared. We were just having a blast.
I’m a pretty intense fellow and like nothing more than to dive into heady creative, intellectual, or spiritual work/research/discussion/etc. So it’s good for me every once in a while to be forced to shut that side of my brain off and just goof off. Always thinking about earth-shattering, globe-spanning, eternity-impacting concepts at the expense of the small, simple things of life is a sign of being unbalanced.
So, the next time you feel like you’re just swimming in intense stuff and your head’s about to explode, go outside and kick a ball around or pull some weeds or just take a walk. Clear your mind. Take some deep breaths. Reboot your mental computer. ![]()

lol, hearing you describe your “slug” like athletic ability reminds me of a friend I have. He’s a hoot to play basketball with!
Great advise in this post!
