Just a quick follow up to my post earlier about doctrinal disagreements and Biblical study: I truly don’t want to sound prideful or arrogant and dismiss the very important aspect of friendly theological debates in the Christian life. Doctrines are important to us…otherwise we blow every which-way anytime someone comes along with a new idea, and there’s no foundation to ground us in the truth of God’s History and His Kingdom. And certainly I have no claim whatsoever on knowing this truth better than anyone else. All I’m saying is, we have to be careful we don’t miss seeing the forest for the trees: it’s easy to get so hung up on the minutiae of Biblical exegesis that the Glory of God is completely bypassed. May it never be so, Lord!
