Have you ever met Christians who shoot Bible verses like they’re six-shooters? “Aha, your doctrines are wrong! BAM! BAM! Take that! Let’s see you top that!” And then the other Christian whips out their trusty six-shoo…I mean Bible, and says “Oh yeah? Well I can do better! BAM! BAM!” Whoa, that’s some mighty fine shooting! Or not.
James says “I will show you my faith by my works.” (James 2:18b) Jesus said “You will know them [Christians] by their fruit.” I’m at the point in my life where I’m really not very interested in someone’s intellectual knowledge of Bible verses. What I’m interested in is how those Bible verses are applied in such a way as to bear fruit in their lives and the lives of everyone in their circle of influence. I don’t care if someone knows about the God. I care if someone KNOWS God.
There’s a difference.
Do you know God?

I agree, I think it’s important to know the God of the Bible though. The only way to know that God is through the Scriptures. Otherwise we would be treading a thin line of idolatry.
